What is the league supposed to do? Make 15,000 people stop chanting? Turn the lights off in the arena? Assess the team a penalty for a chant? It's obvious it's just low hanging fruit, and because his name is similar people are gonna use it. Nobody in that building, thinks he is a woman, or Katie Perry. Not one.
However, the one that always bugged me more than anything, and made me cringe, was the "Ricci's ugly!" chant. I would be more hurt by that chant, than someone calling me Katie Perry. Can you imagine the emotional damage you could end up with, having 20,000 people telling you, you are ugly? When it is obvious your aren't the best looking guy? It is emotional bullying to the absolute maximum. It's the stuff of nightmares, yet CP thought it was totally awesome! And I never saw one person defend Mike Ricci on this site.
10 X worse than a goofy Katie Perry chant. Because it is pointing out a visible, quantifiable flaw the guy has.
