I think you are getting hate and knowing potential mixed up...
Yes, he is on a great contract BUT he wants more money and is in a contract year. That takes us to
1) Is he worth being re signed for more money on what would most likely be a 4ish year term?
2) Is he worth dealing to a team where he can play top minutes and show his worth for more money.
As of right now, he either gets stuck on the 3/4 line for the remainder of the year which hurts his negotiations be it with the flames or as a FA or he can waive his clause to go somewhere with a top 6 role and tear it up and earn the extra money he is after.
I have no doubt there are some teams he could strive under with a different system/style. It is a win win to trade him at the deadline. We get something for a player who I doubt we re sign and he gets a better chance to show his new team or the FA market that he deserves more money.
