I think PBS is a very solid network and they do a lot of things really well, especially the Ken Burns stuff and their other documentaries, but there are a number of characteristics that differentiate the CBC from PBS. For one, PBS has a much larger donor base to draw from. You've complained in your blog that the CBC lost the rights to the NHL, which was clearly a financial decision, yet you're suggesting a model that would leave the CBC even more strapped for cash than it currently is. Secondly, PBS is just one television channel. The CBC is several television channels and several radio channels. Lastly, the CBC has to maintain a French language component, which again leads to higher production costs than what PBS has to do.

It's really an apples to oranges comparison.
