The irony is that what happened today is practically the best case scenario. Adding a bunch of Rambo wannabe civilians to the mix would have made no difference at best or resulted in far greater casualties at worst.
You can't stop a shooting out of the blue. Just can't be done. So the best case, after Cpl. Cirillo was shot, was that someone shoots the shooter. Which is what ultimately happened. Worst case, I'm sure we all know what a bunch of panicky people shooting wildly can do. Not to mention the associated problems of a massive rise in gun violence day to day.
