Looking at Google Earth and the historic imagery there, it looks like it's always been a kind of gravelbar when the water is low (assuming I'm looking at the right spot)
As for the glass, I assume that's remnants of some damage from the flood. Walking along the Bow at Lafarge Meadows, I notice there's a lot of broken plastic bit washed up.
This leads me to a question I've been wondering for a while. All those houses we saw get washed away by the flood... where did they end up? I'm not sure where the Bow eventually slows down, but there must have been a ton of wood, siding, concrete, household appliances and other assorted junk all washed up somewhere.
