Here is a couple of pictures of the new kart track being built by the CKRC (Calgary Kart Racing Club)
From the website - http://www.ckrc.com/
Quote:
After 13 very successful years running our own facility on leased land at the old Race City location, we were forced off the site at the end of the 2013 to allow expansion of Calgary’s Shepard Landfill.
2014 became a rebuilding year, we have secured a 20+ year lease in the town of Strathmore, a 30 minute drive East of the City limits – AND WE HAVE BROKEN GROUND ON THE NEW TRACK!
Racing will likely start in the late August/early September timeframe with a full season racing in 2015.
Construction was originally slated for May immediately after the Development hearing, but our permit was not finalized until June 30 after an appeal. Volunteers from the CKRC, and two other motorcycle clubs groups who will also use the new facility, started fencing the 20 acre site the following week.
Perimeter fencing was completed July 19. Earth movers have already marked the outline of the track itself, and placed material for sound berms to the North. Grading equipment is due onsite Aug 5th to do the final base preparation before the actual paving takes place.
The track will be 8m wide and nearly 1300m long. In comparison the track at the old site was about 1100m long (centre line measurement) and 9m wide. The new track has much more elevation changes, approximately 7m, rising and falling around a very exciting technical, and more compact layout than before. The facility hasexcellent spectator sightlines and the paved cut-offs between corners allow multiple track configurations for added excitement.
