Israel is refusing to negotiate under the threat of missiles, which I think is fair. Israel also had multiple wars where Israel was not the aggressor and took over much of the region, and could have taken all of it. It did not want all of it, it just wanted safety. In exchange for peace, Israel gave back land it took. For example, Israel gave back Gaza to Egypt in exchange for peace.
Palestinian leaders have refused all offers at peace and deals...Israel basically has control and is developing land but will replace that land elsewhere. The clock is ticking though and Palestinians have nothing to show for their violence.
What do I think of settlements? They certainly do not help, but Israel is going to continue existing based on what it sees as the right choices, choices based on years of attacks. If negotiations began in good faith today (ignoring the Gaza violence), one of the first hurdles would be how to replace that land and how to create a legitimate Palestinian state in chunks, or swap more land to join it all together.
