What im curious to know is, if the grandparents had just finished an "estate sale" trying to sell off their possessions, what is a child, who isnt theirs, doing staying over for the night or being there in the first place?

Im not putting blame on anyone... Im just trying to imagine myself in that situation before the crime took place.

Your parents are hitting rock bottom, they are selling all their stuff, you know of some pretty hard times for them and you drop your kid off to them the night of the estate sale... What would go through my mind thinking this was a good idea in the first place?...

None the less, its a terrible tragedy. Its a damn shame what happened to that young man. RIP Nathan. You are the one in all of this who was truly innnocent.

I'm with Hockeyguy15; I'm sure the parents were well aware that the Grandparents had some business issues, seeing as the grandfathers most recent business had just gone upside down, and they were likely packing up to get away and start over fresh, by taking some time in Mexico then moving to Edmonton. That's not something I would personally hold against my own parents, and certainly wouldn't keep their granchildren from them, seeing as by all reports, the Grandparents had great relationships with the grandchild. They likely wanted to see their grandson before leaving for a while, I'm sure no one involved had any thought that an ex business partner was planning on showing up to murder them.

Such an unbelievably sad story, RIP Mr. and Mrs. Liknes, and most of all, little Nathan, I can't imagine the pain of losing a child, and know, I for one will be hugging my own 4 and a half year old son a little tighter tonight.
