McDonald looked like an 18-year-old goaltender. He is big and quick and can make some spectacular saves but he is raw and misses some easy ones. He also looked really nervous, which isn't much of a surprise given the circumstances.
He could be great, he just doesn't look spectacular now. I think he was worth the 34th overall because the draft was a total gamble after about 15th overall.
Johnny Gaudreau looks NHL ready. That's about all that needs to be said. If he continues to perform at NHL training camp in September the way he has performed in college, the world juniors, the world championships, and development camps... he will make the team.
Now that's not to say I would be surprised or disappointed if the Flames put him in Adirondack for awhile, but I can almost guarantee that, barring an injury (knock on wood), Gaudreau is in the NHL by the end of the season.
