Over a decade ago one of my friends took me to a mosque that wasn't affiliated with the mainstream Calgary Islamic society. I didn't think much of that at the time, but after listening to the Imam preaching I got the impression that he had some pretty radical ideas. Asked a few friends if they had heard about the guy and they said that the mosque he preaches at was kicked out of the Islamic society and that he's being watched by CSIS. After I learned that I thought it was a good idea to stay away from them. My friend that took me there, however, became radicalized and ended up a couple years later getting arrested in Syria. He spent about a year in jail there before being released and returning to Canada.
I always thought that CSIS had a good grip on these sorts of things, but apparently they aren't doing enough.
