The guy was playing big minutes before his injuries and he seems to be doing his job. I get it we think he is overpaid just like a lot of people thinks of Jay Bouwmeester while he was a Flame. He too was playing more minutes and were bound to make mistakes now and then. Wideman was pretty good with the puck and was a good passer. He might not be as good defensively as offensively but the guy was helping the Flames. It's not like we have some young defenseman who can play the same minutes as he does pre-injury. Also if you think you can get a decent defenseman in FA who will not get overpaid you are close to dreaming. I also think that decent D you are thinking of might consider signing with a rebuilding team. We have Wideman already who seems to enjoy playing for Calgary. He can help us with the salary cap and can give us time to develop young D.
