Ya I agree. It's like the french Jose (Jo-sey) with the spanish Jose (ho-sey). I'm sure way back when, it was sounded one way, but then location, culture and language altered it over the years.

I read somewhere that when the Gretzky's came from the Ukraine, it was actually Gretsky with an s. But there was a mix-up at immigration and ended up Gretzky with a z, now that's just how its spelled. Guaranteed the way Johnny Gaudreau's family pronounces it is a butchering of the proper way, from whenever they moved away from whatever french-speaking community they came from, to an english one. But if that's how they say it's pronounced, I'd say that's just what it is now for that family, even if it's linguistically incorrect. Especially if we're talking about generations of the Gaudreau's pronouncing it that way by this point.
