The more I think about it, the more I think her reason for missing is mental health issues (claimed/diagnosed depression). It is the only thing I can think of that would allow for Hancock to not be throwing her under the bus, and the speaker being so obtuse. It is also a very government tolerable thing to miss work with.
I have been on here before saying she is self entitled and looks after herself and boosters first. However, I am not against her missing and getting pay if it is crippling depression, and was in treatment, and maybe she is. To me that is no different than a physical illness, and does affect her judgement on behalf of her constituents. Maybe her doctor told her to get away and focus on herself to get over it.
If this is in fact the case, things may get a bit more complicated. If she was down there as part of doctor advised mental recovery is that ok? Is it better she misses work when her judgement is impaired? Why is a physical illness treated different than mental?
I know what I am saying isn't popular, but it is a possibility. Also, given her smarts she knows what she is doing, she feels this is within' her rights, and maybe this one is. Problem is how legit the mental issue is, you can't see it, and who knows given her history if it is legitimate debilitating, or maybe this is more of her milking a mild illness to get out of facing the music.
Who knows, honestly I think she should resign but that ain't happening for many reasons. I am going to be really interested to see if we ever find out why she was away, something makes me think it will come out sooner or later, and as a politician I would be careful to criticize her publicly until I knew.
