Uh, I'm not quite sure that's right to say because of one unusual circumstance.
Imagine a season where the "Pacific division" playoffs had the following teams make it:
(P) Vancouver - 110
(P) Edmonton - 100
(P) Calgary - 90
Wildcard - (C) Chicago- 95
If Chicago beats Vancouver and Calgary beats Edmonton I believe Calgary, despite having less points than Chicago, gets the home ice advantage in the next round because they finished "higher" in the standings.
