When it comes to carrying the puck out of our zone and starting rushes, I would think he is top 20 or 30 in the league.
His offense, especially his shot, isn't where it needs to be yet, but again - he's 23. It'll come.
I think the DKeith comparisons are justified - his projection and ceiling are potentially that.
He is an absolute gem and if the Flames gave him this contract, I would consider it a bargain.
By the way: if Gio were up for an extension today, I think we'd be looking at $6.5 - $7m per, as Tinordi said earlier.

Name me a team in the NHL besides us and Edmonton where he is a top pairing D man? Saying his ceiling is Duncan Keith can just as easily be said it is Ian White. Top 20 or 30 in the league in moving the puck up the ice? He is not even top two on the Flames, both Gio and Russell are better puck movers and definitely turn the puck over less. Again, I see Ian White much more than Duncan Keith but we shall see. I hope you are right.
