But this is the sort of animal that I'm all for: not a particularly glamorous animal, but one that's really cool nonetheless, and which could really benefit from a captive breeding program.

I have eaten sage grouse, MANY years ago before they were endangered and when they could still be hunted. I assure you, THEY ARE NOT DELICIOUS.
That being said, I agree with you, I'm glad they are doing what they can to protect the species.
