Since I've made probably half dozen posts hoping Feaster/Burke would find us a veteran D man for cheap somehow, I can't complain

A 27-year old defensive D-man easily has 5 years of good game in him, maybe even a decade. This was a solid deal.
Too bad seeing Horak go, but it was pretty clear this guy wasn't getting anywhere in Calgary. At least in Edmonton he'll have a lot of young millionaire drinking buddies to drown his sorrows...
I hope this pushes O'Brien out of the lineup.
So basicly:
Giordano-Brodie
Wideman-Russell
Butler/Billins/Breen/Smith-Smid
I'd keep Wideman and Russell together, as two guys that like to both shoot and make plays have proved a rather effective combination.
For now, without Gio, that becomes
Wideman-Russell
Brodie-Butler
Billins-Smid (or Smith-Smid if you prefer.)
Having Smid gives us more options to cut down minutes on guys that are struggling, or maybe had to play crazy minutes the first night of a back-to-back. This is nice.
