Apple isn't courting the first time buyer looking for a discount phone. If you think that the bulk of the customers of iPhones and iPads are grandmothers and suburban moms who only use the devices to surf and text you are very mistaken. Apple users are more likely to spend money through their devices than other phones.

I am going to get flamed here but when people talked about the Apple walled garden they are talking about the control Apple has on its users. Android appeals to the consumer who might access their consumable media and other content from various sources, many not necessarily paid. Make no mistake though Google can't take any moral high ground here because it wants to do exactly the same, except differently (google tracking and analytics)
