I always forget that most of you live in Canada where maternity/paternity leave is a thing that actually is afforded to you. Here in the US it's not that way--women don't get maternity leave, unless they're lucky enough to work for a company who offers it, and very few do. And honestly, raising a child on a single income is damn hard, if you expect it to be that easy for your wife to just stay home all day with the kid, I think you're in for a rude awakening once you actually get married and start planning a family.
As most families now, both parents work, and if you aren't helping your wife with the kid in the middle of the night, you might wake up to your belongings on the front lawn.
