If anyone does go to Detroit i highly recommend the Detroit Institute of Arts, one the largest art collections in the US.
If anyone is a fan of Art they have Van Gogh, Degas, Cezanne, Monet the list of Artist's is endless. Pretty much any significant American artist is displayed. This museum is full of priceless art over 60, 000 pieces in their collection it was truly amazing.

Detroit Zoo it is just north of Downtown one the oldest Zoos in the US and the animal habitats are really well done it is well worth seeing honestly we thought it was better than the Calgary Zoo.
In near by suburb Dearborn the Henry Ford museum is outstanding. It features so many items way beyond Cars and there is a large Aviation collection as well. It is more like a general American History Museum.
I agree there are many of the neighbor hoods i would not venture into but there are some real quality finds in Detroit if you like Historical sites and museums.
As for this Detroit filing for bankruptcy i can't even imagine how this whole process will go and what is historically protected. I have never heard of a city claiming bankruptcy in the US or Canada before what a mess all the pension's and city the 1000's of city employee's how in the world will that be carried out?
