Unlike the NFL and MLB where they do receive compensation. Look to just the recent Bluejay situation with drafted Bickford.

There is no reason the NHL and NHLPA can't agree to this for the NHL. Other than they are far far apart from being a partnership.
I believe there is some sort of compensatory pick in the new CBA.
