Not that I'm sold on having him in Edmonton (sideshow.....), but I don't think your reasons
not to do it hold any water.
Using up a roster spot? Every team carries two goalies - who else would this spot be used on but a 2nd goalie.....
Cap space? History has shown that players can be had for a pretty reasonable cap hit post-buyout as they're still getting paid by their previous team - they can make a hockey decision rather than a straight paycheque decision.
That being said, still not sure he's the right fit in Edm - I'll reserve judgment.
