very true, i wonder if distance from your home city would be more revealing. People in europe are usually surprised when I tell them it takes longer to go from Vancouver to Toronto than New york to London.

I think also America is really good at marketing itself to other Americans, while as Canadians, we don't feel that same draw to see America and are drawn to the rest of the world... or nicer weather.
