That brings me to this year. Carolina is right before us again and I can't help but wonder if they will "help" us out again by giving us the better the player (not intentionally obviously). Do they take Nichushkin, Nurse leaving us with Barkov/Lindholm.

I think Carolina is one of those teams that wants immediate help. They are in almost the same boat as Edmonton in that they both want capable NHL defensemen. I could see them trading the pick for an established player or picking someone who can step right in.
In an article, one of their scouts felt there were 6-7 guys who could step right into the NHL. That could perhaps include Nurse or Pulock, but I doubt it.
History tells us Rutherford likes NA forwards. I think they take Monohan if they keep the pick, but I would not be surprised the see the pick traded.
