Pominville is a
much more valuable property than Bouwmeester. He's a significantly better player with a cap hit almost $2 million lower. It's a silly comparison. Pominville is an excellent 2-way center; Bouwmeester will be the #3 defenseman on a bubble team.
As for not waiting until the summer, who's to say that a first round pick would still be there, especially if Bouwmeester tailed off down the stretch like he did last year? Two months ago you would have been lucky to get anything to unload Bouwmeester's contract. Holding out in the hope you can get a marginally better return is crazy. Take what you can get and feel lucky.
