Yeah LA won with Carter/Richards but was Columbus any better with Carter? No, because he didn't want to be there and he wasn't capable of being a team leader.
That wouldn't have happened in Philly. And Holmgren didn't trade them for rentals, he got long term players.

I get your point and I don't totally reject it. Also, I'm not equating the Richards/Carter moves as the same as the rumored Clowe move (Clowe being older and without a contract in place comparatively). But take the Schenn for JVR deal. Holmgren can't sit still. It's like trade turrets.
