I think the only way Feaster could have did it differently is if he bluffed and said that the return was too low and that we were going to keep Iginla and try to negotiate an extention. Then drag it out until the last day and hope Pittsburgh upped their offer. It would have been a big risk though if Pittsburgh didn't come back.
Personally, I would have been fine with that approach even if it backfired.
I worry that Feaster's reputation is that he is a pushover and I'm afraid that GMs are just always going to assume they can lowball him every time. If it affects the return for more of our assets, then it would have been worth taking a stand on Iginla IMO.
