Tough to put into words....there are so many amazing moments on the ice. Many of them have already been highlighted.
However, a personal experience with Iginla will always be my favorite memory. I was doing a job shadow in 2008 and Iginla was the first professional athlete I ever interviewed. I was visibly nervous. He asked if I was new, introduced himself to me and stayed behind to find out about my education and what goals I had for the future. About 30 minutes later, I was packing up my gear and he handed me an autographed picture. He wished me luck in my career. Anytime I have run into him since then, he always stops to chat and just asks how things are going. Pure class. Not seeing his name and number in a dressing room stall...it seems almost surreal.
I have tears typing this....a lot of raw emotion tonight. My head knows this is the right decision, but my heart doesn't. Thank you for everything, Jarome and good luck.
