Kipper would be a great option for a compliance buyout (depending on the team involved). I am assuming that you would have to payout only $1.5 Million, but you get rid of the $5.8 Million cap hit. Re-sign him to a $3-4 Million per year contract and you have lowered your cap hit by $2-3 Million and you give him solid incentive to stay in the NHL. Could be a good option for Toronto, etc.
Is there anything in the compliance buyout that would prevent signing with the team that just bought you out?
