Or even from a marketing perspective, nobody is going to suddenly go out and buy merchandise in Pittsburgh now that Iginla is on the team, because the other 4 guys on the team aren't as marketable as Iginla.

Disagree. If Iggy goes deep in the playoffs with the Pens, is Crosby's linemate, and signs an extension, you will see Iggy jerseys. People love to get the new guy's name on the back of a jersey. Why do you think you see Wideman /Baertschi / Hudler jerseys being sold in Flames stores?
Iggy would sell jerseys. Even his nickname (Iggy) is marketable.
