This happens - regularly (to people in their 50s typically)
I just advised a client who was given a transfer to another city. He doesn't want to go. But he knows that if he doesn't, he will essentially be put on the fast track to being bought out (forced retirement) earlier than he would like - a total CLM.
It's a life-choice, nothing more.
Fans are getting bent out of shape because they want to see a return for him in a trade. All well and good, but he is under no obligation to oblige.
