I know people are going to say how much we owe him or how crappy we'd be if we didn't have him but open your eyes.... We're almost dead last in the league. We are crap. If he doesnt' play another game for the Flames, they sink lower and get a good pick. If he does play more and wins us games, we get another 10-14 pick with no playoffs and nothing to show for it. If he accepts a trade, we get assets, a higher draft pick and he gets a shot at a cup (or at least the playoffs).

IF this is true, I lost a lot of respect for Kipper.

Honor the contract you've signed, suck it up and shut your mouth, play somewhere else for a few months and then you can retire if you want.

Not sure if it is true. But if it is then shame on him.

But just rumours right now and at least it is a quit if somewhere else and not a quit if not place X.

And I get that the return wouldn't have been huge, and it's not like I even wanted him to get traded for sure ... but at least the Flames should have the ability to do it if they want to. Without an NTC, a player shouldn't be allowed to make a decision like that.

I've always been a huge fan of Kipper (my favourite Flame ever, even ahead of Iggy), but if true (and it's Kypreos, so I give Kipper the benefit of the doubt here), that decision would seriously piss me off.

He, like Iggy, shouldn't be on this team any longer. This team is going no where but down in the standings and the Flames should be able to load up on any kind of asset they can to help the future. Sure, Kipper has given a lot to the Flames and so has Iggy but they have both been paid millions and millions of dollars to do so. They don't owe the Flames anything other than their contract states but the Flames don't owe either of them anything more than they've been paid.

If this is indeed true, Kipper shouldn't be honoured by the Flames at all.
JESUS CHRIST!! Arguably the most important player on the team for a decade, single handedly carried the team for most of that decade (with help from Iggy), signed a very reasonable contract (less than he would've gotten as a UFA for sure) to stay in Calgary. This guy has been the heart and soul of the team and has never complained when he was the only player out there giving his all every night. And just because he would rather retire here, than be a rental player you guys throw him under the bus?!?! I understand about trying to make unbiased decisions and not let emotions get in the way, but come on, if anybody has earned an exception to that rule, it's this guy. He has 100% earned to have his say in the twilight of his career. Good for you Kipper!!
