To date they have faced the following backups
1) 6-3 Loss to Colorado (Giguere in net)
2) 3-2 OT Loss to Hawks (Emery in net)
3) 7-4 Win over Dallas (Bachman in net)
4) 5-2 Loss to Blues (Allen in net)
5) 4-3 Win over Dallas (Bachman in net)
6) 3-1 Loss to LA (Bernier in net)
7) 4-1 Victory over San Jose (Griess in net)
8) 5-2 Victory over Detroit (Gustaffson in net)
If one eliminates the Vancouver and Anaheim games since they more or less go with a true rotation (this being 5 games) the Flames have played 40% of their games against backups. If you want to include the backups (goalies who have played less games) in the Vancouver and Anaheim matchups, you can add on 1 game with Hiller in net and 1 game with Luongo in net. Which would be 10 out of 25 or still 40%. Playing 40% of your games against backups is a high number in the NHL (the average starter plays around 70% of the games). My only point was that the Flames have benefited from low expectations from other teams thus they have faced backups more. If they get into the hunt again, that will change and the percentage of starters they will face will go up.
The Flames right now it could be argued have benefited from facing backups, going 5-4-1 against backups. It is not unreasonable to suggest that if they face starting goaltenders they will have a more difficult time getting victories than against backups.

Again you are missing the point. Everyone acknowledges that yes the Flames have faced back up goalies 40% of the time, but the other team has also faced the Flames back up goalies 60% of the time. You can not factor in wins and losses in any equation only utilizing one side of the stats, i.e. Flames facing back up goalies.
And you don't know the bolded part for sure. Maybe the other teams realize that the Flames can score goals and put their back ups in because they don't want to get their starters confidence lowered, see I can make assumptions and pie in the sky predictions also. I am just saying, if you want to spend all of the time watching the games, and evaluating them afterwards looking for the negatives in why the Flames are where they are then it must be terrible HAVING to watch such a terrible thing. I watch the Flames, and my Flyers, because it is enjoyable to watch, win or lose, and not to analyze how crappy they are doing.
