The package Boston got for Bourque ended up being pretty insignificant in the big picture. That 1st round pick bombed (as is often the case with late 1st rounders). Grenier never amounted to being an NHL player. Pahlsson ended up playing 17 games for the Bruins before being traded for Nazarov and Traverse.
They basically traded Bourque for 4 years of Brian Rolston before he left as an unrestricted free agent. Given that the UFA age nowadays in 27, this can really complicate things. You want the player coming back to be young enough that you won't lose them right away, but young players are such a big question mark.
