Well isn't that part of the equation with RFA's? You offer them so much that the team that holds the rights has to consider their salary structure and cap. Hopefully you offer them so much that they don't match because they won't play the player that much - but if they do you know you've screwed them over.
Which is what has happened right? At the end of the day? Now COL has to overpay ROR?
And yes, if the Flames had got ROR they would definitely not got a player worth 6.5.
