We all need to realize that although he's only 35, he's got a lot of miles on that body and the team can no longer ride him through the season.

Truth is, as much as he is criticized, he has earned every penny he has made in the NHL (and more), and has earned more money in the NHL than any active player other than Jaromir Jagr and Martin Brodeur (I believe, but not totally sure).
If he wants to stay, give him 5yrs( at a fair value tbd). If not let him go, or trade him where he wants to go. And retire him with grace. Don't sling mud. Respect him, considering all around him, because 28 other teams wish they acquired him for what we did, and 1 team, while not unhappy they traded him, wishes it was somebody else the gave up, instead of him.
