Not at all. It was implicit from the paragraph prior to the one you bolded that I was referring to black kids who embrace hip hop culture.
I agree, that there's a media stereotype. And not every person will conform to that stereotype, be they from east Vancouver (like Kane) or Compton. But, I also feel its wrong to criticize someone for choosing to conform to a stereotype - especially one with broad racial underpinnings like the hip hop scene.
All I'm saying is that when Canadians look down their noses at a young black man for simply embracing aspects of the hip hop lifestyle, there's often an element of cultural prejudice there.
