To add my 2 cents on unpopular opinions. Dion Phaneuf is one of the nicest guys you'll meet. My wife used to volunteer at the Childrens Hospital and he went out of normal Flames committment to really make a difference for tons of kids. Easily the most committed Flame to that cause and the void has yet to be filled after the trade. His girlfriend was big into the cause as well.
A CP poster and an all round great guy, made arrangements for my kids to meet some of the Flames as they were coming home from a game in Vancouver (it was a loss that night). It was very late, after midnight if I recall correctly, and the Flames were coming off the plane through the terminal and into the parking lot.(private area). All the Flames were coming out and the kids were polite and respectful in asking for autographs and pictures. All the Flames players were more than happy to sign their jersey and have a picture taken. Anders Erickson walked across the parking lot to chat with the kids. Very happy go lucky kinda guy. Dion Phaneuf was the friendliest of the bunch. He was giving the kids a hard time for being up so late and was generally very chatty and more than happy to pose for a few pictures. My kid's idol, Kiprusoff, was very quiet but happy to spend some time talking to my son (goalie as well).
Last guy out was Iginla and when the kids approached him, he was very blase about the whole thing. Yes it was late, yes they lost and no, I dont know what his circumstances were prior to the meet but my kids were 10 and 12 at the time and they were talking to one of their heros. In my humble opinion, you're a celebrity, these are kids, you're their idol, take the time and at least seem somewhat interested....your teammates were.
Thats the story.
