I don't really have too much hate for Maps at the moment, but I see the annoyance. When Apple announced they were dropping the Google Map app I started using other mapping services to see how they measured up. An app like Waze for instance is one of the partners, and in my opinion is a brilliant little app. As much as I enjoyed using it, the location search was just never on the same level as Google. Much like Photon above, I was immediately concerned as no service is overly strong in comparison.

One feature Waze has that Apple Maps doesn't (and for obvious reason) is a clear way to report a map issue. I mentioned that my workplace wasn't showing at the proper address and within 12 hours had a personal email from the community developer who fixed it. Incredible service. Of course Waze is working with several million less users so they can do that, but it's still incredibly handy.

From what I've used of Maps it has been a good experience for the most part. Several things are obviously worse, but many things are better. For a 1.0 this is decent and pretty much on par with most initial apple releases (the "it doesn't have that?" feature is cranked to 11). However, like with most Apple apps I'm sure over time it'll gradually get to where it needs to be. As long as google gets their app in the app store reasonably quick I'll be pleased.
