That being said, I have a few friends who have cracked theres. It does to take a good drop to crack the screen.

For the most part I've found the iPhone to be easier to damage but it (was?) glass so that's no surprise. Mostly though it's luck of the draw. I've had a buddy drop his from a height that he went "well, that's busted" and it was fine. I've also seen one drop from the edge of sofa onto a carpet and heard the crack of the glass crack.
At the end of the day these are all mostly fragile devices. My old BB Curve was a workhorse... but changing one time at the gym I let it dangle on the a bench and wham, broke. When I first got my Samsung Nexus S it felt cheap as frack but it's also shockingly durable because of the plastic. It has some slight chips in it where if it was glass it would be a crack, I can live with that.
Not all phones can be the Nokia 3310.
