Normalize the statistics for time and annualize that Mexican Statistic based on an average stay of 2 weeks to be conservative and it's more like
76.6 murders per Million Canadian visitor years
vs.
8 murders per Million people who live in Calgary based on 2011 stats
Adjusting for this indicates you're more likely to get murdered in Mexico spending equal time there. Hell even Edmonton is twice as safe based on that stat.

This makes no sense. We are talking about tourists. I guess someone who visits Calgary for a week in a year should be really worried according to your logic.
