Unlike most of the other top nations Germany always seems to have intense competition to make the starting 11, where as others tend to have the set 11.
It is this competition to be on the starting team that has always made Germany so dominant in friendlies.
Players are not willing to even take a small, inconsequential, friendly lightly because they know if they don't perform they will lose their spot in the squad.

Germany usually don't care too much about friendlies really and only give 100% at tournaments.
