Saw Moneyball last night, and at the end the movie claims the '04 Red Sox won the WS by using Billy Beane of the A's strategy of getting cheap players and smart strategy instead of stars to win. The '04 Sox had the 2nd highest payroll in baseball, what are you even talking about???
PLEASE finish the epic collapse tonight...

I haven't seen the movie, however I do believe the Red Sox did adopt this philosophy to a certain extent. The difference being that they could afford the superstar players that hit many key statistical categories that the A's simply couldn't afford (acquiring Curt Shilling for example). While that seems to be a no brainer, I do believe they traded Nomar based on this philosophy much to the chagrin of Red Sox Nation.
That said, Go Rangers!
