That's actually what I like about most of the people at pride parades, they're out to just be themselves and be proud to be themselves. I'd say that a large part of the over the top antics come from a desire to take the opportunity to let out a lot of stuff that they are forced to hide on aday to day basis and to do so in a very public way. It's a strange dynamic and can't even begin to fully comprehend, I've never had to hide who I am in any manner simply to live a normal life. There are probably people who use the occassion as a F-U to society, which in some places makes sense, but I think we'll see that group get smaller and smaller as gay rights become somethign that's a given as opposed to an ongoing battle.

I can only base it on what I know and see. For example I'm a healthy heterosexual male, aged 43, who's been in a lot of relationships, and obviously you have to do a lot to keep your sex life fresh.
However, I first and foremost don't see a reason to advertise those particular lets call them fetishes in public. But I would be feeding a stereotype if I did that older men are complete f%%%ing perverts.
TO me just being part of the gay pride parade shows your pride in being who you are. You're willing to stand up in front of the world and say that you're gay, and thats entirely awesome.
Sing, dance, have a party, thats awesome.
However, when you have people walking around naked in fetish wear or what have you, you're going to get that element of society that thinks, that the centuries old stereotype of gay going hand in hand with perversion.
To me personally the Gay Pride Parade is an educational experience that homosexuals have normal healthy relationships just like everyone else, and that they're comfortable in their skin.
A$$less chaps don't do that
