That bottom border between the left-ism and individualism is easily to miss if you're not talking about economic policy. The school friend that's quoted as saying that he was "left-leaning" and "liberal" only knew him during the last administration. Anyone critical of the Bush government (with the interventionist wars and their crushing of our civil liberties) would have been seen as "left-leaning" at the time, because that's what everyone would have been talking about at the time. But in reality those same criticism could be heard just as vocally from libertarians, Ron Paul in particular.
Maybe, but his favourite books include The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf . I'd be suprised if he is libertarian.
