I'm not sure I understand. You want better writing, but less narrative?

I mean, the writers could easily just do zombie-fights for 42 minutes. That would make their lives really easy. Every script would look like this:

OPENING CREDITS
(Rick enters)
Rick: Shane! Zombies!
(Shane enters)
Shane: Die, Zombies!
(Rick and Shane fight the zombies. The zombies almost get them, but then they don't.)
CLOSING CREDITS

Personally, I like a little bit of story to go with my gory. I like this show; it has tons of potential in my view.
