This thread has made me realize that there are a lot more things that I value and as a result motivate me to a large degree.

For so many years I did work where I was conditioned to not really do a good job due to the nature of the work and the extreme negativity surrounding the management process. When I finally freed myself from that industry, I realized how awesome it was to do something and be able to sit back and say,"Damn, I did that and it rocks".

Again something else I didn't really think of since it really is just built into who I am. I always bust my butt to make sure the users where I work are taken care of and if I know they need something I find it really rewarding when the seemingly impossible task (in their eyes) they came to me with was something I could resolve.

One of my favorites was when one of our executives was told by the IT supervisor that her fairly new Windows Mobile Phone wouldn't sync with our new version of Exchange and she would have to buy a new phone. I took a quick look at her settings and realized he was using the wrong server address and she was back in business. She was so happy that it took pretty much every ounce of her strength not to hug me right in the middle of the office.
