Cassel was an upgrade and Mike Vrabel does give that defence a lot of leadership so losing that second round pick which Herm Edwards and Carl Petersons scouts would screw up doesn't bother me.

Ultimately though it would have been better to have the team in place than pay the couple other picks that it cost to get a guy like McNabb. It still blows my mind that teams like Arizona or San Fran who are both in that very winnable NFC West didn't make a move for him.

Great catch here by Harvin to make this one a bit more interesting.
The Cassel thing is still puzzling though. The money was insane for an unproven guy with limited arm strenght and no college career to build off. He's not the worst QB in the league but the Raiders for example are getting similar or better play from Gradkowski & Campbell and they make $5 million combined. Ideally this would have been the perfect year for the Chiefs to work in a franchise QB as it appears expecations will be high next year if they continue to play well. To me it appears that coming back with Cassel next year could be disasterous for the Chiefs if expectations are high. He seems to have problems reading coverages and usually ends up checking down and hitting mostly short reads and for a big guy he struggles with the deep ball. In the NFL you are going to need your QB to win some games during a 16 game season and Cassel just isn't that guy that's going to win a game on his arm when the running game is taken away.
