Yeah that's the wrench in the whole thing. Retail employees are restricted in what they are allowed to discuss with regards to iPhone 4.
It's also important to note that, while there might not be any available at store opening tomorrow... that does not mean that a shipment won't arrive at some point during the day. There are stories in this very thread about people standing in line and being told there is no stock available, only to continue to stand in line and have stock arrive two hours later.
