Those were around before the Thanks botton. If anything the Thanks button took away from posts like "Agreed!" or "I agree with everything you said" or "That's funny". The Thanks button can be used for so many things I think it helps take away those posts. If you think getting rid of the Thanks button would make one liners or drive-by posts disappear or even lessen you need to think again.
